Johnny was born in Ayrshire, Scotland. After leaving school he attended college
studying Drama & Media. He went on to appear in various roles in Scottish television’s
Take the High Road and Taggart as well as performing in the show spots with Carnegies,
Gillespie’s and Bonkers Show Bars. Deciding to broaden and diversify his career,
Johnny then trained in Fashion Design, Hairdressing, Wigs and Theatrical Make-
His first step in his career was working as Wardrobe Master with Rank Leisure for three years in Ayr at Wonder West World, soon after he developed his profile further by working in various theatres and in travelling shows including Billy Smarts Circus, Circus of the Street and Tony Hopkins Entertainment (all for whom Johnny still provides a consultancy service).
In 1998, Johnny made a move to Somerset where he was a Wardrobe Manager for Bourne Leisure for 10 years. This involved covering over thirty shows a week including pantomimes, cabarets, children’s entertainment (Bob the Builder, Blytons Noddy and Friends, Spiderman, the Hulk & Power Rangers) and arena concerts (McFly, Atomic Kitten, Will Young, Busted, Westlife, Girls Aloud, Katie Price and Peter Andre). In house shows included work on X Factor, Celebrity Pop Academy, CH5’s Milkshake, Nickelodeon road shows and Joe Pasquale’s Rentaghost The Musical to name but a few.
Alongside all this Johnny ran a successful Costume Hire Business in Minehead for some 10 years. In 2010 he relocated back to his homeland and working for First Family on several pantomimes and in London on the set up of Thriller Live Tour.
Extensive television work includes filming with BBC on Scottish Soap River City, with M.T.P. Advertising Agency on several television commercials and various documentaries for Channel 4.
Johnny has also been involved in theatre productions such as High School Musical, Fame, Little Shop of Horrors, Romeo & Juliet, Dreamcoats & Petticoats, Barry Manilow’s Can’t Smile Without You, Hairspray, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, various operas and ballets.
Pantomimes have included Sleeping Beauty, Dick Whittington, Cinderella, Snow White, Wizard of Oz, Jack & the Beanstalk and Alladin, as Wardrobe Master.
2009/10 brought a busy year as Head of Wardrobe with various productions including National Theatre of Scotlands U.K. Tour of Peer Gynt, Anything Goes & Fame at the Edinburgh Playhouse, Company Liaison for Edinburgh International Festival and their spectacular show of Faust, Stage Manager with Experimentum Mundi and most recently a four month tour of Ireland with Robert C Kelly Productions and R.T.E television company in Fame the Musical starring Sheila Ferguson. Finishing off 2010 in Aberdeen at His Majesty’s with Panto, Sleeping Beauty staff Elaine C Smith.
Sine then he has been working freelance in many theatre & private productions and has opened his own Fancy Dress and Theatical Suppliers in Ayr next to the newly reopened Gaiety Theatre.
